Description

Pitman's Bay Camp is on the west side Mary Lake, between Port Sydney and Huntsville. The camp has one large electrified lodge with a kitchen and running water, not drinkable. There are two older cabins on site, no longer suitable for sleeping. Tenting is best option for sleeping. There is lots of open and wooded areas for every game imaginable. There are kybos and a separate washroom building. The camp is set up for Spring, Summer and Fall camping only. There is a rocky/sandy beach on Mary Lake with a volleyball court and fire pit.

Pitman's Bay was originally owned and built by the 1st Huntsville Scout Group. 2nd Huntsville helped out with construction that took place in the 1950s. With the decline in youth over the next 30 years, the local Scouting committee gave up operation of the camp due to operation costs, insurance, etc. Today, the Town of Huntsville maintains the property and holds the land in trust for the Scout youth of the area and the youth of Huntsville in general. The local Rotary Club has helped also at various times.
